Date of Event Cricket Australia State Competitions: Tue Sep 6, 2016 10:00AM

Australia’s best under-17 male cricketers will converge on the Sunshine Coast for the 2016 National Under-17 Male Championships later this month.

The first week of the championships will be staged on the Sunshine Coast – at Maroochydore, Caloundra and Landsborough – with the second week of matches to be played in Brisbane.

The event will run from September 26 to October 6.

As in last year’s event, ten teams will again participate in the 2016 edition.

Victoria will field both a Country and Metro squad, while New South Wales will field a Metro Squad and combine with ACT for an ACT/NSW Country side.

ACT/NSW Country will be led by Sydney Thunder and NSW Blues rookie Jason Sangha, who shot to prominence with some spectacular batting feats for the Cricket Australia XI in last year’s Under 17 and Under 19 national championships, and became the youngest player ever contracted by New South Wales earlier this year at 16 years of age.

Reigning champions Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania and Northern Territory will all participate, while a Cricket Australia XI side – comprised of the country’s best Under-16s talent – rounds out the 10 sides.

The teams will be split into two pools of five, with the top four sides from each pool reaching the quarter finals on October 3.

The semi-finals will be played on October 5, with the final to be played at Allan Border Field on October 6.

NSW Metro, ACT/NSW Country, WA, NT and VIC Country are in Pool A, with SA, VIC Metro, QLD, TAS and the CA XI in Pool B.
